Annual Christmas Dinner

If you were up and around the Methodist Church at 6 am on Sunday December 7th you may have been surprised to see the lights on in the church hall and kitchen. Had you ventured inside you would have found the tables set for our annual Christmas dinner and in the kitchen Christine and her team preparing for this festive occasion with turkeys in the oven, veggies on the boil and starters and sweets being assembled.

The two days previous, teams of helpers had decorated the worship area and the hall, erected the Christmas tree, put up loads of festive lights, peeled potatoes and sprouts, and loads of other preparations for the 92 young and old who were to come to this very looked forward to event. Prior to the dinner our minister Reverend Trevor led our special church anniversary celebration (12 years since the new church was built) service for a packed church. After the service, whilst waiting for the turkey to finish cooking, we enjoyed a nostalgic look at the past year of church events with a photo. show whilst coping with a tricky Christmas quiz which the Milner family subsequently won.

And then everyone sat down to a really excellent meal. There was a choice of three starters then the turkey with all the trimmings, a choice of three sweets and completing with coffee and mints. The meal was ably served by our young people Ben, Arron, Phillip and George assisted by Gillian and John from our adults.
Whilst the cooks, servers and front of house staff had their meal Melanie and Andy organised some hilarious and most enjoyed christmas songs including the "The Twelve Days of Christmas".

Santa made a most welcomed stop over on his way up north bringing an early Christmas present for all our young people. The day ended with Christine, who leads our catering team and whose

birthday it was the next day, being presented with a "ginormous" cake.

Everyone being full of Christmas pud the cake was saved for everyone to have a piece at our carol service on the 22nd.
Everyone agreed it was a fabulous day and our thanks went to all those, to numerous to single out, who had made it all possible.
