HAPPY 90TH BIRTHDAY-DORIS ANDREWS

Doris celebrated her 90th birthday on the 29th May with a party in our church hall  for all her family and friends. Some fifty of Doris’s family and friends arrived at the hall and enjoyed good company, lots of laughs, entertainment and an excellent buffet tea.

Doris was presented with a magnificent bouquet of flowers and lots of photographs were taken of her cutting her special birthday cake. Doris’s speech was very moving thanking everyone for coming, for their donations and to the church catering team for a fine spread. Following the speech and the cake cutting Morris Gray entertained everyone with some fine singing. Margaret Gregory also sang two songs.

Doris asked that no one should bring a present but if they wanted to give a gift to donate to our church funds. £105 was collected.

A lovely afternoon for a lovely lady, on her special day. The following Sunday Doris was given a photograph album containing her party photographs.

FAREWELL CELEBRATIONS FOR OUR MINISTER

Sunday 12th June saw the official West Hallam farewells to our minister and friend the Reverend Trevor Grewcock and his wife Liz. Trevor officially retires (or sitting down as it is called in the Methodist Church) on 31st August. As many churches and the circuit are having farewell “dos” it was the time for our “do” on the 12th.

Trevor was preaching at our morning service and during the service was thanked by Malcolm Brown, on behalf of the church, for all he had brought to our church as well as being our Superintendent Minister. His preaching, pastoral care, teaching and especially his humour would be missed. He was presented with a cheque and Liz with a flower bouquet as gifts from the church members and friends. The Junior Church, represented by Joseph and Christopher, also presented him with a JIGS & SIGS member’s photograph’s montage and a collection of members paper hands with special messages on the palms.

Following the service a thank you lunch was held in the church hall.

Trevor and Liz will be sorely missed and we all thank our Lord for their ministry among us.
