JIGS and SIGS

The Junior Church at West Hallam Methodist

Over the last two years the Junior Church has grown, and we now have a lively group of young people who enjoy meeting and having fun together

Our age range is from 2 to 17. If there are children under the age of two then parents/guardians are encouraged to join us.

 We meet in three groups:

  • Toddler group    Under 5 years of age
  • JIGS (Juniors in God’s Service)  Reception Year to Year Six
  • SIGS (Seniors in God’s Service)  Year Seven and above

Our groups meet between 10.30 and 11.40 on Sundays at the Church. We attend the first part of the Church Service to ensure that we maintain close links with the Church family and then we spend the remaining time in the Hall.

Our session starts with a short time of prayer and then a story time/discussion time. This might be led by one of the Jigs leaders or the children might be encouraged to act out the bible passage as a group. The old or new testament bible passage is linked to today’s living using visual aids/discussion.

Various activities are organised to continue to focus on the theme for the day. Activities usually involve some form of craft work, games, group quizzes or even cookery!

We usually conclude our session with a news time and a closing prayer.

In addition to our Sunday morning meeting we have also enjoyed a number of additional activities together including video evenings, a family football day and craft days in the school holidays. The leaders are currently exploring a number of new ideas for additional activities that the young people have put forward.

We welcome all newcomers, and we are currently looking at possibilities around expanding our premises to accommodate further expansion of numbers.

JIGS and SIGS Mission Statement

At JIGS And SIGS we strive to provide a safe and welcoming environment in which the children and young people are encouraged to explore both Old and New Testament stories and apply their teaching to both their own lives and the modern society in which they live. We also seek to ensure all teaching is scripture based and is presented in the knowledge that Christ is risen Saviour!
